Tasting NotesPouilly Fuisse Pentacrine…One of my wines of the year, this is organic, biodynamic and (crucially) downright tasty.
This comes from 5 different vineyards all of which are covered in small fossils “Pentacrine”. This is hugely complex with dried apricot, spice, toast, vanilla and an overriding creamy palate.
Domaine Saumaize-Michelin is owned and run by Roger and Christine Saumaize and is totally bio-dynamic.
In the vineyard all the work is done by hand and particular attention is paid to maintaining the biodiversity of the vineyards by giving the vines a helping hand with a variety of different ‘dynamised’ lotions and potions. All natural of course!
In the winery Roger gives each barrel individual attention during their maturation and then, like a mad alchemist, blends various barrels together to give a balanced and harmonious wine.
The resulting wines are full of pure Chardonnay fruit with an amazing balance between creamy oak, ripe, rich fruit and fresh, crisp acidity.
