Helen Turner PPAI

Helen M Turner PPAI was born in Prestwick in 1937. When she left school she joined the design studios of James Templeton and attended Glasgow School of Art in the evenings from 1952 to 1960. There she studied drawing, still life and portraiture under Trevor Mackinson and William Gallagher. Continuing her career with James Templeton, she became a documented designer in Aubusson and Beauvais, travelling extensively throughout the world. Helen’s designs can be seen in the Waldorf Astoria, the Turnberry Hotel and the San Francisco Opera House.

Eventually, she gave up her design work to become a full-time painter. Helen is currently The President of the Paisley Arts Institute. She is also a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute and the Glasgow Society of Women Artists and exhibits regularly in both London and Scotland. She has had many exhibitions, notably at the John D. Kelly Gallery in Glasgow and the Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery, Eton.

Helen won the East Linton Award and was commended in the Soroptomists Fine Art Award in 1992. Her work is in the corporate collections of Robert Fleming Holdings, Dunedin Fund Managers, Romco Oil and the TSB as well as many private collections at home and abroad.
